A new neighbor arrived across the street from Anne Edwards’ house in Scotland around five years ago. Mildred was the name Edwards gave to the crow.
For a short while, the two were strangers.
Edwards was at home one day when she heard a disturbance outside. Mildred and one of her fledgling chicks were sitting atop the fence when Edwards arrived. A cat crept nearby, ready to pounce.
Edwards decided to step in and help.
Edwards told The Dodo, “I saved the young crow and returned it to Mildred’s nest in the thick trees across the road.”
Mildred was visibly moved by Mildred’s act of charity.
“She then started bringing all her chicks to my garden,” Edwards explained, adding that it had become an annual tradition: “Every year, she brought her fresh brood of chicks to my garden.”
On another time, Edwards found one of Mildred’s children on the ground and returned him to her nest. Mildred’s concerned heart was once again calmed by that wonderful gesture.
The wild crow, on the other hand, got an opportunity to repay the favor recently.
Edwards’ kid became unwell last week and had to be transported to the hospital by ambulance from his house.
Meanwhile, Mildred was obviously watching from her perch in the tree across the street, sensing the anguish in the heart of the lady who had previously treated her and her children so well.
The crow decided to provide Edwards with some solace.
“I heard Mildred cawing pretty loudly outside my bedroom window when I got home from the hospital [that night],” Edwards recalled. “When I stepped outdoors, Mildred was sitting alone and exposed on a barren tree.” This was out of the ordinary conduct.”
Mildred’s home tree has thick foliage that provides protection from the weather. But, at the risk of her own comfort, she had opted to be close Edwards.
Edwards remarked, “She stayed there all night.” Mildred returned the next night, with Edwards’ kid still in the hospital.
Edwards was comforted by the crow’s compassionate presence in her hour of need.
Edwards explained, “We’re both mothers.” “She was watching out for my family when my kid was in the hospital, just as I was looking out for her chicks.”
Thankfully, Edwards’ son’s health improved on the third day, and he was released from the hospital to recover at home.
His mother, who had been apprehensive, was overjoyed. Mildred, it appears, was aware of this as well.
“As soon as my kid got home,” Edwards added, “she went back to her usual roosting spot.” “We are grateful to everyone who offered us warm well wishes — and especially to our buddy Mildred, who keeps an eye on us from above.”
