Alyson Aguerrebere was out running in Long Beach, California, when she noticed a little white puppy on the pavement ahead of her. She became concerned when she discovered the dog was not on a leash.

Aguerrebere told The Dodo, “She just seemed lost.” “As I approached her, she was gazing at me from about 40 feet away, and it wasn’t until I got close to her that I noticed the sign.”

The dog approached Aguerrebere gently, and it was then that she spotted the enormous lawn sign informing visitors of the dog’s plan. “I’m Harper,” read a piece of paper with the dog’s photo and Instagram handle. This is where I call home. I’m pretending to be lost in the hopes that you’ll come over and pat me.”

Harper was conducting a pet scam, and Aguerrebere was the next victim to fall for it.

“It was amusing,” Aguerrebere added, “and I realized she does this to everyone.” “So I sat down and spent about 25 minutes just caressing her and rubbing her tummy.”

The 3-year-old rescue dog can’t seem to get enough attention since being adopted by a loving family. The small dog is permitted to spend time in the front yard begging for pets from passers-by, but her owners are constantly nearby to ensure she does not get into any mischief.

“After 25 minutes, her owner walked out and said, ‘Oh, did she deceive you into giving her love?'” According to Aguerrebere. “She claims she does it multiple times a day and that she never wants to go inside since she attracts so much attention.”

Harper, on the other hand, is a huge fan of the center of attention:

Harper turned over to get belly rubs from Aguerrebere and climbed into her lap at one point. Harper and Aguerrebere both enjoyed their impromptu frolic.

“I adore her,” Aguerrebere expressed his feelings. “She made my entire day.”
