Piglet, a little pastel-colored puppy, didn’t have much luck at the beginning of his existence. Piglet was born blind and deaf in a household with 37 other dogs. However, once he was rescued from the hoarding situation and put in a wonderful foster family, things began to look better for him. Piglet is currently living happily with his new owner Melissa Shapiro and is seen as a wonderful role model for children.

You might wonder why Piglet is pink. This beautiful Dachshund Chihuahua hybrid has two dapple-colored parents, it turns out. When dapple to dapple breeding occurs, each puppy has a 25% chance of being “double dapple.”

Piglet is both blind and deaf due to this extremely unusual occurrence, which resulted in a gorgeous pink puppy. However, the disease is connected to congenital ear and eye impairments, which is why Piglet is both blind and deaf.

Taking care of a crippled puppy is difficult, but Shapiro was ready to give him a shot, at least for a few months until he could find a forever home. It didn’t take long for the two to become completely connected, and Shapiro decided to adopt the small puppy.

“It was a difficult choice to make. He’s a lot of work, and taking care of a small crippled baby is like a full-time job for him. “But he’s so cute,” Shapiro told People. “We couldn’t give him away at that moment.”

Piglet is now enjoying his new life, which includes being well cared for and being accompanied by six other canine companions, although his new mom said it took some time for him to acclimatize. “He was so agitated that he couldn’t stop yelling.” He’d play and then sleep, but when he wasn’t doing either of those things, he’d cry. “The first month I had the dog here, I couldn’t leave the house,” Shapiro explained.

Piglet’s narrative, however, does not finish here. It’s clear that the dog was destined for greatness from the start. Piglets’ narrative is now motivating schoolchildren to overcome their peculiarities and problems thanks to the support of a third-grade teacher in Plainville, Massachusetts.

“The children were so inspired by Piglet that they chose as a class to adopt Piglet as their growth mindset role model and approach each day with a ‘Piglet State of Mind’ in order to progress as students and persons.” When issues happen at home, the parents say their children ask, “What would Piglet do?” Piglet’s owner commented on their website that “the pupils brought wonderful hand-drawn cards with sentiments to Piglet that left us breathless.” This idea grew into a program that is currently utilized by schools all around the world.

Piglet’s story aims to “encourage spay and neuter of dogs and cats; educate about the severe consequences of double dapple/merle breeding; inspire and motivate others to adopt special needs pets; facilitate Piglet Mindset outreach to teachers and students; fundraise for special needs dog rescues and other nonprofit organizations; put a smile on people’s faces all over the world,” according to the website.
