The dramatic surge in the number of vultures flocking their area in Greensboro, North Carolina, astonished residents. They were taken aback when they saw the scavengers clustered around an abandoned Pit Bulldog named Lilo, who had been chained and mistreated in the frigid woods for weeks by her owner.
Animal rights advocates were quick to notice a photo of Lilo surrounded by vultures. They discovered Lilo was always shackled and lacked food and water. Her precarious situation made her sick, and the vultures were attracted to the stench of decomposition.
The vultures’ ominous presence saved this 8-month-old when authorities arrived to rescue her. The Merit Pit Bull Foundation took her in and provided her with a full meal and a bath for the first time in her life. She was first terrified of persons and the sight of backyards. She would spend the entire day hugging her caregivers for comfort.
Couple Keana Lynch and Travis Henley have adopted Lilo and promised to help her heal from the physical and mental trauma. Meanwhile, the authorities are investigating the case of her neglect and abuse, and are looking for any information on the case. Spread the word.
