This is Goldie, a nice pet pufferfish that always seems to be in a good mood. That happy energy is contagious for Goldie’s devoted owner, Mark Byatt.
“She has such a great personality!” According to Byatt, who spoke to The Dodo, “In general, she’s a really happy fish.”
Goldie’s happiness is contagious. However, it has been showing a little too much until recently.
Goldie, a pufferfish, has teeth that fuse together to form a single huge tooth. This tooth is also constantly expanding to compensate for the damage caused by their shellfish diet.
These hard-shelled nibbles are a favorite of Goldie’s. However, her chompers grew quicker than they were ground down in recent months, leaving her teeth longer than they should be.
Byatt was concerned that it may ultimately affect her capacity to eat, so he took her to the Sandhole Veterinary Centre for assistance.
Goldie was sedated so dental work could be performed with little stress to her.
Her overgrown tooth was then carefully trimmed down.
We use fish-safe anesthetic and [nurse] Debbie held her with a towel, often placing her back into the water,” the clinic wrote.
The surgery was a success — and Goldie was left with a much healthier grin.
“She’s overjoyed with her new grin!” According to Byatt.
There’s no mistake about it now that you’ve seen Goldie.
Goldie can now enjoy her meals much more easily thanks to the dental treatment.
But her reasons for happiness don’t stop there.
Goldie’s owner adores her, and he makes sure she understands it.
“All the time and money I spend making sure she lives in the greatest circumstances and has a happy, healthy existence is well worth it,” Byatt said. “Goldie is one of the family’s most adored members.”
