Brighid Rose discovered the other day while visiting her parents’ home that an other kind of guest was also present and had been making himself at home.
It was a small mouse that had been rooting about in their cabinets looking for food. The goal for Brighid’s parents was to have him removed, and they hoped their cat could handle it. But when Brighid discovered the mouse when she was there, she made the choice to be more tactful.
Brighid told The Dodo, “I picked him up and carried him out to the field behind their house.
But she went above and beyond.
It would have been admirable enough to safely remove the small mouse from the premises. But Brighid made the choice to take things a step further.
Brighid stated, “I felt horrible just abandoning him out in the field. He must have been used to eating all that human food in my parents’ cupboards.” “So I gave him a small picnic farewell,”
To serve as a picnic blanket, Brighid spread out a napkin and placed some snacks. The little mouse was happy.
Brighid said that it was quite sweet. “I was able to spend nearly an hour sitting next to him. To me, he appeared really joyful.”

After a while, the little mouse found a cozy place nearby for shelter. Before heading back inside herself, Brighid left him a few more snacks to help him get back on his feet at home again in the outdoors.
For Brighid, treating the mouse with dignity — and treating him to a little farewell picnic — came as second nature.
“I have always just really loved animals. I didn’t really think too hard about it. Like, I should do this for him! It’s not his fault he’s a little mouse in a big world!” she said. “It was so cute! Definitely made my day.”
