Amazing Response of Rescue Dog When He Sees Clearly for the First Time

Like the rest of his canine buddies, Luca never quite understood the world. The world surrounding the 4-year-old rescue knew there was beauty, but it was always a haze. If his eyes would only let him, he would take it all in and enjoy every second.

And Luca recently experienced that moment as a result of eye surgery. He was able to properly see everything for the first time in his short existence, including how much his mother loved him.

After years of poor eyesight, Luca underwent cataract surgery in July. By the third day of recovery, the sweet rescue seemed ready to get back to normal life — only this time, he’d actually get to see it.

“We went on our normal walk, but instead of running around with his nose to the ground and sniffing everything, he was taking a few steps, stopping and just staring around,” Luca’s mom, Katie Schneller, told The Dodo.

“It was so beautiful. He kept whipping his head around to make eye contact with me and giving me his big doggy smile.”

Luca was accompanied by his most trusted companion, Mom, as he soaked in every detail of his newly clear environment.

He would wander to the side of the road and stare at the river with his mouth open after sitting in the center of the road and gazing up at the trees, according to Schneller. “I genuinely believed that I understood him to be utterly in awe. This dog never stops moving, yet for several minutes at a time, he just sat and watched.

Here, you may observe how Luca perceives the world:

When Animal Care Centers NYC took Luca in, he was a homeless man. Schneller visited him every day after work and experienced “love at first sight” there.

Schneller recalled that “the rescue personnel really attempted to discourage me from adopting him because they felt he was too high-energy and agitated, and the blindness would just make things worse.” “I reassured them that I was up to the task.”

Schneller saw Luca’s eyesight getting worse as he started bumping into things. One specific instance resulted in a trip to the emergency department. Schneller realized it was time for surgery at that point.

Afterwards, the vet told Schneller that it could take up to seven days for Luca to see clearly.

“He looked so happy in the car, but was still very swollen and kept his eyes closed most of the time,” Schneller said. “He slept through most of the day and just did gentle walks.”

Luckily, Luca felt the benefits sooner and now he gets to see how happy he makes his mom every single day.

Schneller described the dog as “an amazing dog.” I’ve owned dogs in the past, but Luca is unique. I believe he is my soul match. He is the most loving, intelligent, and content puppy I’ve ever encountered.

He is kind to everyone and has introduced me to so many amazing individuals. I adore him in ways that are difficult for me to express; every day, my love for him grows.
