For these two Utah anglers, what was supposed to be a relaxing fishing excursion turned into an animal rescue. When Bransen Jackson and his closest friend were out ice fishing on Panguitch Lake, they stumbled found a newborn deer in critical need of assistance.

The hapless critter became trapped on the thin ice, unable to move. But Jackson, a wildland firefighter, put his life on the line to save the unfortunate critter. His pal captured the scene on film!

Although things looks pretty easy from the footage, it wasn’t like that as the fishermen didn’t know what to expect. The ice was thin and the deer was very scared, so it could easily hurt them making the situation even worst. But Jackson decided to take that risk in order to save the distressed animal.

“I glanced over there and thought to myself, ‘Dude, that’s a deer.’ Of course, we have to go preserve it,” Jackson told 2KUTV. “So, we just began walking over there gently, and his boot actually went through a break in the ice at one point.” So it was incredibly thin, but I thought to myself, ‘We can’t simply leave this deer alone.'”

As the two guys approached the deer, it was unable to stand on its feet and appeared tired. When they got there, though, they had no clue how it would respond. Jackson, on the other hand, tried to soothe it down by gently picking it up into his arms. The rescue, however, was far from complete, as the ice began to shatter beneath their weight.

“I was thinking, ‘Man, if I attempt to pick it up, this may kick me,'” the firefighter said. “When I took it up, it was incredibly peaceful and gentle, as if it realized that these folks are going to attempt to help me.”

But suddenly the ice shattered, and I was like, oh my god, and I immediately rushed up and ran off for the beach, hoping for the best.'”

Fortunately, they all made it to the shoreline, and as soon as they did, Jackson threw the one-year-old deer to the ground, where it became lost in the wilderness. Thanks to these two warriors, the mission was completed!
