Dog Who’s Spent Her Entire Life In Shelter Won’t Stop Snuggling Her Pile Of Toys

Almost two years have passed since Bella first arrived to the RSPCA’s Ashley Heath Animal Centre; this also roughly corresponds to her age. She has lived in shelters for the most of her life; nonetheless, despite everyone’s best efforts to make her happy and comfortable, what she truly wants is a place to call home.

Bella briefly had a family, but they abandoned her because she had trouble getting along with other dogs. Bella has advanced significantly in that area and has developed some dog friends at the shelter, which has required a lot of effort and patience.

“Bella is really worried by other dogs and lacks [socialization] skills that she missed out on in her early, formative months,” Hannah Hawkins, behavior and welfare advisor at Ashley Heath Animal Centre, said in a press release. “We believe that incorrect management has worsened this, and she was incredibly frustrated when we first started working with her, but, thankfully, after months and months of intensive work, we’ve started to see her making improvements.”

Bella is learning to appreciate other dogs, but she likes people and wants to be with them all the time. She can’t spend as much time with them as she’d want because she’s still at the shelter, so the staff came up with a plan to help her while she’s in her kennel.

She has turned to her cuddly toys for comfort, particularly Winnie the Pooh, who she cuddles up with every night, since despite our best efforts, we simply cannot be with her all the time.

In her kennel, Bella has a ton of toys to keep her company, and anytime she wants some affection, she enjoys playing and cuddling with them. Bella usually looks so adorable with all of her toys about her, but everyone wishes she wouldn’t need them for too long.

Bella would prefer to be adopted by an adult-only family with no other pets who can commit to giving her lots of love and attention and can also continue her training.

She’s struggled with separation anxiety in the past, so she’ll need a family who can be sensitive to that and is willing to work through it with her. She would love a nice, big, fenced-in yard, too, where she can run and play as much as she wants.

Bella may have some specific requirements for her future home, but everyone at the shelter knows that her perfect forever family is out there somewhere. In the meantime, she’ll be at the shelter surrounded by toys just waiting for her adopters to find her.
