Every Foster Animal Who Visits His Home Is Welcomed By A Blind, Deaf Dog

Sheryl Smith has been rescuing and rehoming animals for a long time, and she favors the creatures that others have given up on. She felt she had to assist Shiro, a partially blind and deaf dog who had been adopted and returned four times after spending time in two shelters and 12 foster homes.

His anxiety was awful, so Smith and her family decided to adopt him so he could finally experience what it was like to have a lifelong home.

“He was a handful but everyone else had given up on him and we weren’t prepared to do that too,” Smith, who adopted Shiro, told “He still to this day cries in the car because he thinks he’s being dropped off somewhere else.”

Shiro has gone a long way since his family first met him, despite his hardships. Because of everything he’s gone through, the beautiful puppy has a soft heart for other animals in need, and he’s been soothing other rescue animals who come through his house since the day he joined his family.

“I rescued a pregnant dog who was too sick to care for her babies shortly after Shiro’s rescue, so Shiro went in with them and started washing them,” Smith added. “Every rescue I take in, he does that.” He’ll just sit with the feral cats/kittens attentively and form such strong ties with them that they trust him before they trust me.”

Smith just learned about a sick and ailing wild cat named Tiny Tolley, and went out to find her and take her in. Smith couldn’t believe how thin and frail the tiny cat was, and he set out to nurse her back to health right away. She wouldn’t have made it if she’d been left alone for much longer, and Shiro could tell from the minute she arrived.

Smith remarked, “Shiro never left her box for a second.” “He saw that she was unwell and afraid, and that she needed to be consoled.”

Tolley gradually regained her strength, but Shiro remained steadfastly at her side. Shiro walked over to assist her as she nestled in Smith’s lap…

… and couldn’t help but give her a big kiss to comfort her — which Tolley wasn’t entirely sure about.

Tiny Tolley is getting better by the day, and as soon as she’s fully recovered, Smith will begin the process of finding her a permanent home — while Shiro continues to soothe all of the foster animals to the best of his abilities.

Smith remarked, “His devotion and care for the other rescues is nothing short of incredible.”
