An enormous unwelcome houseguest has been staying with Annette Gray these days in her Australian home.

Charlotte is her name. She is a huge spider that stumbled inside one day and chose to remain.

Charlotte is a huntsman spider, which may grow to be fairly huge but is really rather sociable, according to Jake, Gray’s son. Huntsman spiders are not dangerous to people when left alone. And that’s how Jake’s mother has handled Charlotte: by letting her be.

Jake told The Dodo, “We’ve watched [Charlotte] develop over the last year or so.” “[She] didn’t annoy us at all. She wanders throughout the home, appears in different rooms, and consumes all the bugs.

Charlotte has undoubtedly been quite busy with that endeavor.

“[She] is about 15 centimeters wide,” Jake said. (That’s almost 6 inches.)

“I think [Charlotte] is getting bigger,” Annette added later in a comment online.

The spider has caused quite a stir among the Grays’ family and friends, some of whom have jokingly suggested the house be burned down to rid it of Charlotte. But fortunately, Annette knows what it means to be a good host, even to spiders who moved in.

“I don’t kill them,” she wrote. “[Charlotte’s] harmless.”
