Bentley had previously been in four homes before KaTarra Taylor adopted him. Most people couldn’t manage his nervousness and medical difficulties, but Taylor believed he deserved a chance at a happy permanent home and refused to give up on him.
Taylor and Bentley were able to work through a lot of Bentley’s anxiety issues together, and while he still struggles, he’s improving every day, and his mother wouldn’t exchange him for anything.
Taylor told The Dodo, “He’s a half lovely doofus and half grouchy grandfather.”
Taylor lived in a one-bedroom apartment when she initially got Bentley. She realized it wouldn’t be enough room for the 120-pound dog, in the long run, so she opted to upgrade.
“I ended up buying a townhouse so we could stay together,” Taylor said. “It had an enclosed patio that I knew he would like. I couldn’t afford a house with a yard, but I thought I could turn the patio into a small yard with the right help.”
Bentley liked lying on the grass when he and his mother went for walks or to the park, and his mother yearned for him to have his own patch of grass where he could relax anytime he wanted. The endeavor appeared intimidating at first, but with her boyfriend’s aid, they were able to finish remodeling the patio into the ideal area for Bentley.
“Last week, I finally decided it was time to have this done,” Taylor explained. “It was all done in one day for about $400 thanks to my partner Nick.”
After several hours of work, the yard was finally complete …
… and Taylor couldn’t wait to show Bentley, and really hoped he would like it as much as she wanted him to.
Taylor led Bentley outdoors, and as soon as he saw his beautiful green yard, she knew she’d made the correct decision and that all of the efforts had been well worth it.
“Bentley lay down right away and stayed there for several hours,” Taylor explained. “He appears to be pleased.”
Now, Bentley loves lying out on his grass all the time, and it’s definitely become his new favorite napping spot. After everything he went through early on in his life, his mom is so happy that he finally has a backyard space to call his own — as well as the perfect forever home.
