Homeowners’ Closet Is The Perfect Place For Sleepy Bear To Take A Nap

Forget the coffee. It would be difficult to top the morning jolt that these Montana residents received.

They were roused from sleep last week at approximately five in the morning by the sound of an intruder. Unwelcome guest had found his way into their Missoula home, where he made himself at home.

It was a bear, and this closet seemed to be the perfect place for it to sleep.

The homeowners dialed for help, of course. But after authorities from the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office arrived, they found the bear was none too eager to have his nap be interrupted.

He’d even managed to lock the door to the room where the closet was located.

“When deputies knocked on the window, the bear was not the least bit impressed,” the sheriff’s office wrote. “He slowly stretched, yawned and, unamused, looked toward the door.”

Although the deputies were dealing with an obstinate person, they were completely fascinated by the sleeping bear.

Before moving on to their next step, they had time to take pictures with him.

Surely, the bear would skedaddle on his own when his sleeping spot got breached, right? Wrong.

“Eventually, deputies were able to unlock the door in hopes he would hop down and leave,” officials said. “However, their attempts were only met with more big bear yawns.”

Here’s video of the deputies reaching the sleepy bear (who could clearly use just, like, five more minutes, please):

Clearly, sleep is what the bear wanted — and sure enough, he got it.

Rather than risk injuring themselves or the animal by wrangling him from the closet, deputies reached out to wildlife authorities. They tranquilized the bear so he could be safely relocated.

Here he is now, enjoying those Zs he’d been after:

The bear may have thought that the events of that morning—the closet, the police, and the commotion—were just some bizarre, lucid dream when he eventually woke up again, far from the location where he had made his home. Whatever the case, it’s safe to say he ended up being the most rested of all the characters in this crazy episode.

The homeowners were happy to see him depart in fine shape, but they won’t soon forget when this invader entered the house hunting for bear supplies! written by the sheriff’s office.
