Little Dog Is Obsessed With Smelling Each Flower He Sees

All dogs like a good sniff, but Finn the dog thinks flowers smell the best. The 2-year-old Pekingese-Brussels griffon mix is the dog most eager for spring.

When her dog was a young puppy, Sarah Geers first observed his affinity for flowers. Geers told The Dodo, “He was really taken with my father’s zinnia garden. He wouldn’t try to bite them or anything; he would simply sit there and smell them. A kind puppy is Finn.

Even when flowers aren’t blooming outside, Finn finds a way to satisfy his nose. “I will catch him jumping on our coffee table to sniff store-bought flowers,” Geers said. “Sometimes even fake plants.”

Finn loves his family more than flowers, if there is anything. The little puppy sleeps with his dad beneath the blankets and follows his mother everywhere she goes.

Geers stated, “He is connected to my hip and loves to sit on laps. He enjoys visiting places with lots of people, including Target, HomeGoods, and Lowe’s. He enjoys being handled and likes people. He enjoys the spotlight.

When Finn is not interacting with people and giving them pets, he is looking for another flower to scent. When we are in HomeGoods, Geers predicted, “I will catch him trying to sniff the phony flowers.” He enjoys riding in the cart and will occasionally poke his head out to smell them as we move down the aisle. He too had a floral obsession from my wedding!

Finn is drawn to all floral plants, but his favorite is the pansy. Although Finn would never consider munching on his favorite flowers, these vibrant blossoms are allegedly tasty and safe for dogs to eat.

With a sense of smell 10,000 to 100,000 times that of the average human, we can only guess what amazing scents Finn is picking up from his flowers. But taking the time to enjoy the little things, like the sweet fragrance of a flower, has made the little dog content and relaxed — and he passes on this positivity to everyone he meets.

“He makes us smile and laugh every day,” Geers said. “He’s always so happy and never stops wagging his tail or giving kisses. He reminds us daily to stay positive and to always show love.”
