This is the first time we have heard of and written about a refuge created just for orphaned kangaroos. We typically talk of people spending their lives attempting to save animals by building shelters to prevent them from suffering.

The man who set this up in Alice Spring, Australia, is Chris “Brolga” Barns, who after a few experiences as a bird keeper in Western Australia and zoo keeper in the Northern Territory decided to create something in first person to help these cute animals.

He created his own sanctuary to help kangaroos whose mothers have been hit by cars, and right now he takes care of 28 of them.

He usually saves baby kangaroos from the side of the road, while still lying in their mom’s pouch.

Chris was fortunate to receive numerous donations that enabled him to pursue his ambition.
