When on one of Kayleigh Grant’s boat tours in Hawaii, the group always picks up any garbage they come across in an effort to make the ocean a better home for all marine life. They routinely examine each item of trash since animals occasionally use it as a home. Recently, they discovered the cutest little baby octopuses on a snack bag.
Grant told The Dodo, “We constantly go through the trash for anything living, so we saw them right away.
Baby octopuses may seem like a rare find, but for Grant, they’re a part of her everyday life at this point.
“I have been lucky enough to see them many times due to working out in the deep sea,” Grant said. “They are so cute and small, so they always make me so happy to find them!”
The baby octopuses in question had selected a piece of trash as their home, but Grant was confident she and her team could assist them move into a much nicer place.
They took them out of the sack carefully, and while they were setting up their new home, they kept them safe in their palms filled with seawater. Fortunately, the group immediately recognized what to utilize as their new home instead of the snack bag when they saw the three little newborns.
Grant stated, “We utilize the leaves or head of the pineapple as a new home because we often have a pineapple onboard our boat to chop up for the guests. They each had to wait for one to two minutes before being placed on a pineapple leaf, but they were incredibly patient throughout that time.
They carefully lowered the pineapple head into the water once all three babies were securely onboard, watched the little octopuses float away on board their new home, and then resumed cleaning up rubbish and keeping an eye out for any further babies who might want their help.
