Italo Nascimento Fernandes and his wife were on the road yesterday near their Brazilian home when they came across an unexpected sight.
An big snake, maybe an anaconda, was on the side of the road in front of them and looked to be trying a risky crossing.
Fernandes understood he had to help.
“We decided to stop the car and get out,” Fernandes told The Dodo. “There are no signs for the cars to wait so she can cross. I have seen snakes run over on the highway before, and think such thing is a crime.”
So, Fernandes started signaling to oncoming vehicles to avoid hitting the giant snake — but he wasn’t alone.
“Many people quickly appeared and also helped,” he said.

“Not everyone takes such strong measures to safeguard animals. Some individuals would rather see them dead, “said Fernandes. “Watching everyone pitch in was a beautiful feeling,”
And it was because of them that the snake crossed over without incident.
Fernandes reported, “She went into the bushes and left.” “It was lovely.”
The scientist Flavio Terassini is grateful to the group for their efforts that day. In an interview with G1 Globo, he estimated the snake’s age to be around 10 years old. In a location where highway fatalities are regular, the snake is a lucky survival.
He noted that several people had successfully stopped traffic in order to prevent it from being driven over.
