Pit Bull Usually Brings Her Favorite Toys to Her Blind Chicken Sister

When Peri was just a few days old, her family adopted her, and six months later, she suddenly had a serious eye infection. The chicken’s family cared for her for months with regular treatments and even took her to numerous doctors, but sadly they discovered that blindness was unavoidable.

Her family quickly got to work making sure that Peri’s blindness didn’t restrict her from being able to achieve everything she wanted since they were determined to assist her as best they could.

“We made adjustments to help her as she lost her sight: bowls on a throw rug that make noise, special low roosting bars, an ottoman in the living room to ‘watch’ TV with us in the evening and an extra large ottoman in our room, next to our bed, for her bed,” Christa Hubbard, Peri’s mom, told The Dodo. “We hired a chicken ‘nanny’ to help her out when we weren’t home.”

Since she needed so much attention at a very young age, Peri has become the sweetest, most cuddly chicken around, and loves getting the help she needs from her family. When she first became blind, her pit bull brother, Taj, could immediately tell that something was different, and became her main protector.

He began guiding her when he was 3 years old, according to Hubbard. “A hen with a seeing eye dog. The following eight years were spent by these two together. He would lead and watch over her. Together, they slept and sunbathed. Taj lost his fight with cancer in July 2018 and passed away. Without her friend, Peri felt lost even though she knew he was gone.

Her family was concerned about how Peri would manage life without Taj because he had played such a significant role in her life. They chose to adopt two pit bull puppies despite the fact that their hearts were still mending.

They were welcomed into the family, and Peri instantly brightened up again, delighted to have new pals. Peri developed a strong bond with her sister Gracie as the pups got older, and the two are now just as close as Peri and Taj ever were, with one charming extra bonus.

Since Peri is blind, Gracie always seems worried that she won’t be able to find her favorite toys on her own — so whenever she can, Gracie brings them to her. It’s as if she thinks the toys will also comfort Peri and help her as she navigates life, and Peri is so grateful to her best friend for every gesture.

Hubbard stated, “Gracie will bring Peri a toy, put it in front of her, and wait.” “Gracie is usually seen waiting outside the fence when Peri is out in her yard doing chicken things Peri has a fenced-in area as we have a pool.

Taj meant so much to Peri, and now Gracie is just as important to her new friend. The two sisters are always together, and Gracie seems to have made it her mission to keep Peri safe, happy and never without a toy for the rest of her life.

“I believe this is just the beginning of where Taj left off,” Hubbard said. “Two sweet souls have found each other.”
