The busy life of Brynnie, a 2-year-old mini goldendoodle mix, was abruptly put on hold when she tore ligaments in both of her rear legs.

Just like when a human tears their ACL, Brynnie’s injuries prevented her from being able to stand or walk comfortably. Her parents were determined to help her get back to her playful self, so they brought her to a vet for treatment options.

“We wanted to make sure she had a full life ahead of playing and running, so we chose to have tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) surgery,” Brynnie’s mom, Christiana Yebra, told The Dodo.

Brynnie’s double knee surgeries were successful, but the recovery was difficult.

“We slept on the floor for months, tried to stay calm and focus on healing,” Yerba said. As part of the healing process, Brynnie’s vet recommended that she avoid any physical activity for a month after her surgery.

Brynnie’s veterinarian eventually gave her the all-clear to take 5- to 10-minute walks, but with Texas’s summer temperatures reaching record highs, her parents chose to take her to a nearby dog-friendly establishment with air conditioning so she could rehearse walking.

Home Depot became Brynnie’s go-to place because of its large aisles and ample space for movement.

“We started walking through the aisles every weekend to stay cool and to build up muscle,” Yerba said.

One day, while walking through the store, Brynnie made eye contact with a store manager named Maddie.

“We joke that once you make eye contact with Brynnie, she has to say hi,” Yerba said. “And that’s what happened!”

Brynnie caught Maddie’s attention and hurried over to her to meet her new friend. Maddie greeted us with a smile, and Brynnie strolled right into her office, according to Yerba.

Maddie was told in detail by Brynnie’s parents about the dog’s previous operations and the numerous laps she had completed around the shop to heal from her wounds.

After hearing Brynnie’s tale, Maddie, who had fallen in love with her right away, informed Yerba that she wanted to buy the adorable dog a unique gift. She chose a member of the month apron for Brynnie and took the family to a private room.

Yerba placed the apron on Brynnie, which fit around the pup’s body like a superhero’s cape, and snapped a quick picture. In the photo, Brynnie’s smile is bigger than ever before.

The gift from the store manager meant more to the family than she realized. Maddie’s efforts that day were more more significant than a very adorable apron, according to Yerba.

Here you can watch Brynnie’s first day as the Pawssociate of the Month:

Although Brynnie is still recovering, he is becoming stronger every day. She may soon finish her rehab laps at Home Depot, but she will always be an honorary Pawssociate, and her family is especially grateful to the employee who made her feel at home.
