‘Scary’ Pit Bull Dons Propeller Hat to Help Her Find a Family

Only five minutes before Bonnie was scheduled to be put to death, Grandma Betty’s Animal Rescue pulled her from a nearby facility. The kindest dog ever, she simply needed a chance to prove it, something in her large brown eyes told them, and they were dead on.

Soon after Bonnie was saved, Lili Follett volunteered to foster her and rapidly developed a deep affection for the cute pit bull.

According to Follett, “She is the kindest, most devoted dog I’ve ever encountered.” She is very trustworthy and enjoys meeting new people. She will put her head on your lap right away. No matter what I was doing, she would follow me about my flat like a tiny duckling, never getting more than a few feet away!

Additionally, she would come over to me each morning to get her morning pets after waiting for me to awaken. She would draw even closer to me if I didn’t give her enough attention if I didn’t give her enough affection!

Follett knew that any family would be so lucky to adopt Bonnie, and set about trying to find the perfect match for her, but was unfortunately met with a lot of fear and misunderstanding.

“Before the hat, most people would give us dirty looks and purposely step off the sidewalk to walk around us, versus just walking past us,” Follett said. “Most people were visibly nervous or unsettled when they saw her. Seeing people’s reactions to her made me realize that she would never get adopted without a drastic change.”

Unfortunately, a lot of people couldn’t realize that Bonnie is the loveliest dog around, so Follett came up with a plan.

Follett got Bonnie a propeller hat to make her more accessible and allay people’s irrational worries. Who would fear a dog wearing a propeller hat, after all? Follett began taking Bonnie out with the hat since she enjoyed wearing it, and soon after, people’s perceptions of Bonnie changed drastically.

“When people see Bonnie with the hat, they smile, laugh and definitely try to interact with her much more,” Follett said. “We’ve had cars slow down to yell about how cute she is out of their windows almost every time I take her out for a walk.

Parents are more willing to let their kids play with Bonnie. Significantly more people would stop us and ask to pet her, which allowed me to open up a great dialogue about fostering and adopting dogs.”

Bonnie is the same dog whether she’s wearing her propeller hat or not, but the hat helps people to look past the untrue stereotypes they may have heard about pit bulls and get to know the sweet dog underneath it.

Follet went above and above to make sure that Bonnie’s true self could be seen by the public. She had hoped that the propeller hat would lead her to the ideal everlasting residence, and it did.

Someone noticed Bonnie’s tale after she gained popularity on TikTok for her propeller hat and made the decision to adopt her. Back at Grandma Betty’s Animal Rescue, Bonnie is presently awaiting transport to her new residence in Virginia. Bonnie is eager to settle in with her new family and go on many walks in her new neighborhood while donning her propeller hat since it is the most perfect ending anybody could have hoped for.
