Patty Robinson met her tiny mouse companion when she spotted the animal in her yard while gazing out the window of her Boston, Massachusetts home’s kitchen. Patty went outside to check the squirrel out of pure curiosity, but when she drew closer, she saw that the squirrel was still a young child.
The woman started looking around the property for the mother or siblings of the squirrel because her eyes were still closed.
Patty looked for someone for about 45 minutes without success, so she realized she had to assist the little squirrel.
The initial idea was to help the creature while it grew a little, so that later it could be released and continue its life, but the squirrel seemed to have other plans.
Patty told Bored Panda :
“When I first picked it up, it melted in my hands.”
At the time, the woman did not know how to raise a squirrel, but she used different internet sites as a guide.
Patty says that she has always helped people and animals, since her special job is to help and be a foster mother.
Patty continued:
“I got engaged to him on the day I picked up the squirrel in the grass.”
The woman chose to release the squirrel, whom she named Bunk, after caring for him for several days, when he was finally prepared to move on with his life. Bunk unexpectedly disappeared for five days and then somehow found his way back to Patty’s residence, where he stayed by her side out of fear and resentment.
Patty added:
“I tried three more times and it refused to go away!”
Squirrels generally do not make good pets, they are messy, expensive, can bite, and need a room to themselves, among other things. However, Bunk wasn’t planning on leaving and Patty wasn’t going to give up taking care of him, so she decided to become his adoptive mother forever.
Patty made the decision to transform her home into a squirrel playground in order to make Bunk’s life more enjoyable and comfortable.
Patty stated:
“I made Bunk ramps and put the tubes in so he could safely run around the room because he broke his leg,” the author said.
Bunk considers his room to be his own property, and he forbids anybody from altering it. Even if Patty enters, he closely supervises her to prevent any mistake.
Despite his independence, Bunk is very affectionate towards Patty, and the two have become very close, loving spending time together.
Thanks to the investigations, Patty shared that many things about squirrels are not true, since they not only eat acorns, but also vegetables and fruits.
Bunk is free to go whenever he wants, but it appears that he decided to live with Patty and will always be by her side.

“Being loved by a squirrel is a blessing, and loving a squirrel is great! He elevates me as a person.”
