Emergency authorities were summoned as soon as a group of children in Queensland, Australia, noticed an animal on a neighboring roof, but at first they didn’t believe them.
The reason for this is that the animal in issue was a kangaroo, and the whole situation appeared to be a comical joke the kids were trying to do. He was present when the fire department arrived to investigate after soon additional complaints started rolling in as well. Unexpectedly, a kangaroo was just relaxing on a roof.
No one was quite sure how the kangaroo had managed to get onto the roof in the first place, but once he was up there, he really didn’t seem all that bothered. Everyone else on the ground was much more concerned than he was. He was just minding his own business.
“We suspect he got a fright at some stage to end up on the roof,” Paula Boon, one of the bystanders and co-owner of Paws Hoofs and Claws Inc., told The Dodo. “We do not know how long he had been up there. He didn’t seem too bothered. He just sat there watching everyone.”
People started to worry that the kangaroo could be dehydrated or unable to descend on his own because no one knew how long he had been on the roof. However, as soon as the fire service learned of the predicament, they acted fast to intervene and were able to pull the kangaroo safely off of the roof.
“Two fire brigade guys got up on the roof and slowly encouraged the ‘roo off the back of the unit, which wasn’t as high, and he eventually cooperated and hopped off,” Boon said. “He seemed to be OK, so we hope he went back to the hills.”
Everyone was ecstatic to learn that the kangaroo survived and safely returned to solid ground. The circumstance was unanticipated, and perhaps the people on the other end of the phone will believe it the next time they hear there is a kangaroo on a roof.
