When a group of youngsters in Queensland, Australia, saw an animal on a neighboring roof, they promptly alerted emergency authorities, who didn’t believe them at first.
That’s because the animal in issue was a kangaroo, and the whole incident appeared to be a harmless joke played by the youngsters. However, when further complaints began to come in, the fire department was dispatched to investigate, and when they arrived, there he was. Inexplicably, a kangaroo is just hanging out on a roof.
No one was quite sure how the kangaroo had managed to get onto the roof in the first place, but once he was up there, he really didn’t seem all that bothered. Everyone else on the ground was much more concerned than he was. He was just minding his own business.
Paula Boon, one of the spectators and co-owner of Paws Hoofs and Claws Inc., told The Dodo, “We assume he had a scare at some point to end up on the roof.” “We have no idea how long he was up there.” He didn’t appear disturbed in the least. He just sat there, looking around at everyone.”
People were afraid that the kangaroo would be dehydrated or unable to climb down on his own because no one knew how long he had been on the roof.
However, after the fire department was alerted to the problem, they rushed to assist — and were able to persuade the kangaroo safely down the roof.
“Two fire department people came up on the roof and gently persuaded the ‘roo off the rear of the unit, which was lower, and he ultimately complied and jumped off,” Boon added. “He appeared to be in good spirits, so we’re hoping he returned to the hills.”
Everyone was so relieved that the kangaroo was OK and made it back on solid ground safe and sound. It was definitely an unexpected situation — and maybe next time, the people on the other end of the phone will believe it when they hear there’s a kangaroo on a roof.
