There Is Nothing Cuter Than This Baby Manatee Touching His Face

Catherine Puzino came upon a cute scenario the other day while diving along Florida’s Crystal River. There was a young manatee, approximately a year old, floating contentedly in the warm, clear water.

But just when it seems that nothing could be sweeter, the fat gray newborn had a tiny bit of an itch.

Puzino is a water guide with Fun 2 Dive, a company that specializes in manatee snorkeling tours. It was while leading a tour that she spotted the youngster who had an itch to scratch.

Despite his curiosity toward her, Puzino was careful not to get too close. Still, she was smitten — especially when he began scratching his pudgy face.

“When I came across this cutie, I fell in love,” Puzino told The Dodo. “You can actually hear me say, ‘Oh my God,’ through the snorkel.”

Here’s that moment on video:

According to Bree Lajoie, a fellow water guide, “baby manatees do silly stuff like this very regularly.” They are truly kind giants. We refer to them as “sea pups.”

According to Lajoie, manatees of all ages are known to appreciate a good scratch. They frequently bump up against boats and docks to do their work.

Thankfully, this tiny creature was utilizing his flippers, which have claws on them.

Even while it may have been tempting to help the infant scratch, it is against the law to intentionally contact manatees.

However, it was enjoyable enough to simply observe him scratching.

Fun 2 Dive stated, “We adore when manatees have itchy faces. You won’t find anything cuter today than this, I promise!
