This Surprising Dog-Duck Friendship Proves That Animals Don’t Choose Friends based on Their Appearance

Meet Barclay, a Golden Retriever, and his closest friend, Rudy, a four-year-old Pekin duck, who can teach you a thing or two about friendship.

As far as amazing animal friendships go, Barclay’s got off to a rocky start when he found how good the stolen duck feed is. Rudy, as the group’s alpha duck, would drive Barclay away from it.

But, as the Retriever became a regular visitor to the coop, it was only a matter of time before the two lovely creatures became friends. “When they’re together, someone is always chasing or leaping on someone else,” Pam Ishiguro, the owner, told Daily Mail, “but when they’re away, they’re continuously calling for one other.”

By this point, these unusual buddies have established a good friendship in which everyone benefits. “[Barclay] likes to drink their bath water and, if he’s sneaky enough, he likes to sniff a small duck butt,” for example. Rudy, on the other hand, has become a dog climbing fan: “Now Rudy needs to ‘claim’ Barclay every now and again by climbing on top of him.” Barclay doesn’t seem to mind because it provides him a chance to smell Rudy’s buttocks — win-win!”

Even though a charming animal family isn’t without its idiosyncrasies, this one appears to overcome their conflicts by snuggling and playing together: “I believe Rudy and Barclay need each other, which is why they have such a strong bond.”

Despite the fact that every family has its eccentricities, this one seems to resolve their conflicts by snuggling and playing together.

“No one else will play with them, so lucky for them, they found each other”
