Because the small dog and his person are both homeless, they have only each other. However, once his young owner is removed by ambulance, the dog called Spike displays an extraordinary sense of loyalty.

The crew in the ambulance spotted a dog urgently following them after picking up an ill homeless person from the streets of Taguatinga, Brazil. The poor little creature was so worried about his companion’s plight that he was prepared to put his life on the line to keep up with the ambulance.

“I have never experienced such a spectacle in my 19 years in my field,” rescue worker Celiosmar Ferreira told the daily Correio Braziliense. “We were moved and concerned for the animal’s safety, since it may be run over.”

The emergency personnel had no idea that the dog that had been following them was really one of the man’s dearest pals. They only realized it when they came to a halt on their journey. “He came to stand in front of the ambulance when we stopped the automobile at an intersection,” Ferreira added. “We decided to take him up at that point.”
