A group of whale watchers hoped for a once-in-a-lifetime sight, only to be epically played by the gigantic whale they had all been waiting to photograph. Thankfully, filmmaker and photographer Eric J Smith captured the amusing event on film, and it has now gone viral!
The marine life lovers carefully waited on their boat with cameras ready, but they almost missed the stunning sight when the giant whale decided to play a prank on them. The party was waiting for a once-in-a-lifetime chance off the coast of Baja California, Mexico, but they were all gazing in the wrong direction when the whale sprang up behind them.
Animal lovers, on the other hand, were fortunate in that they turned their heads just in time to get some wonderful photos with the magnificent creature.
The humpback whale allowed them another view, just as it had known the curious sightseers had missed the first opportunity. Some whale watchers even joined in on the celebration this time.
Photographer Eric Smith, who witnessed the whole scene could not believe his eyes what he was seeing. “She slowly and silently stuck her head high above the water to look around,” the 49-year-old said.
“When everyone turned around, she quickly sank below the surface. Cheering and hysterical laughter ensued.
