Elsa was very pregnant when she was taken into the custody of the RSPCA’s Essex South, Southend & District department. Her rescuers expected her to give birth to six pups, so they swiftly settled her into a foster home while they awaited the wonderful day.
Elsa ultimately gave birth in early March, to a lot more puppies than anyone had anticipated.
In a news release, Kathy Butler, the branch manager, remarked, “We knew Elsa was expecting at least six, but we were stunned when 13 came.”
Elsa gave birth to twice as many puppies as anyone had anticipated. Fortunately, Elsa was well-prepared and quickly transformed into mother mode to care for her enormous new brood.
“Elsa is a very attentive mum and has done a wonderful job so far, and we’re thrilled that all 13 … are getting bigger and stronger every day,” Butler said.
Elsa’s rescuers have had to assist her by bottling-feeding some of the puppies because there isn’t enough room for all of them to breastfeed at the same time. It’s a large task that no one anticipated, but the puppies are all doing well and developing normally, so that’s all that matters.
The puppies don’t have names yet, but the RSPCA is hoping to give them all Disney-inspired names, just like their mom. People even have the opportunity to sponsor a puppy to help with the costs and care of the large family and can then suggest a Disney name if they’d like.
When Elsa gave birth to so many pups, everyone was taken aback, but they’re all settling in nicely, and the shelter can’t wait to find all 13 puppies and their mother the greatest forever homes when they’re ready.
