Deer Who Lost Her Mom Forms the Sweetest Friendship With a Raccoon

A report concerning a newborn raccoon in need was sent to certified wildlife rehabilitator Carrie Long last year. He was found clinging to life during a downpour at the age of barely three weeks after his mother had abandoned him.

Long made the decision to adopt the raccoon as part of her organization, Texas Fawn and Friends, which focuses in saving orphaned deer. Jasper was his given name by the woman.

Jasper has chosen to keep Long’s deer sanctuary his home despite attaining maturity and being able to go it alone. He now contentedly coexists with the 75 orphaned deer cared for by Texas Fawn and Friends throughout the expansive area, but there is one in particular who has unmistakably captured his heart.

Hope is her name. She also lost her mother when she was a little child. Jasper, though, makes certain she never feels alone.

“Jasper just loves her,” Long said. “When he sees her, he runs to lick and love on her. It’s just the cutest thing.”

Here’s video of Jasper and Hope’s sweet friendship in action:

Jasper and hope have it good. And it’s all on their own terms.

“He sees her every day,” Long said. “In the evening, she comes and lays next to him. They’ve got a cool relationship going on.”

Long anticipates taking care of around 100 orphaned fawns this year; without Texas Fawn And Friends’ commitment and labor, none of them would likely survive. However, they are given an opportunity to succeed there, not only have their lives spared.

None other than what Long would have wanted.

It’s a really satisfying job, she said.
