I can’t think of a greater profession for an animal lover than wildlife photography. They frequently get the opportunity to have one-of-a-kind, once in a lifetime interactions with Mother Nature and her gorgeous creatures!
One of the fortunate people is Gren Sowerby. The last forty years of the life of the 69-year-old British photographer have been devoted to his love of wildlife photography. Gren admits that he has the ideal work and that being around wild animals is always enjoyable. But nonetheless, he experienced the “shock of his life” last month in Kenya’s Maasai Mara.
The experienced photographer was on a safari when spotted a majestic lion around 40-50 feet away from him. Naturally, he prepared for some beautiful shots with the king of the jungle. Only the king decided to play some tricks with Gren.
“I got the shock of my life,” Sowerby said to the South West News Service. “I lent in to take a shot when he let out a big roar.” Then, I couldn’t believe it when he smiled at me as when someone winks at you to say, “Haha!” He roared to declare: “I’m the King of the Jungle.”
The huge lion stunned the photographer with a big scary roar, then he immediately started to smile at him. Of course, no matter how scary it was, Gren remained there and captured the unique scene!
“I was really happy with the photos, I only looked at them properly when I got home. I regularly go on these safaris and really enjoy photographing wildlife. They have grown up around the safari so they’re used to cars and tourists,” Gren Sowerby says. “The King of the Jungle is always something you’ve got to capture and I’m so pleased I got the shot.”
But this isn’t the first time a fierce lion has displayed a playful side. A video of a lion hilariously rousing a lioness earlier this year went popular on social media. Check it out!
