A Dog Tied To A Pole Extends His Paw To The Cop Who Has Arrived To Save Him

Officer Angela Laurella of Pompano, Florida, received a complaint of two dogs tethered to poles on a dead-end street last week.

It was hard to tell how long the dogs had been there or who had abandoned them because there were no cameras in the area. Officer Laurella knew there was no time to spend with temperatures approaching 100 degrees outside.

She dashed over to see a weak gray dog clinging to a post so tightly that he couldn’t move.

Amy Roman, president and founder of 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades Florida, told The Dodo, “He was chained to a pole with a very short leash.” “Every bone and rib protruded, and he was very malnourished and dehydrated.”

The dog, now called Liam, bent his head to receive petting and placed his paw in the officer’s palm. “She simply stepped up to him and extended her hand, and he kind of cowered and gave her his paw, as if to say, ‘Please help me get out of here,'” Roman explained.

The rescue may be seen here:

Officer Laurella saw that Liam had had a difficult past and required particular attention, so she sought assistance from the rescue group 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades Florida. Despite the fact that the rescue was overflowing, Roman gladly took Liam.

Liam is currently resting in Roman’s house after multiple vet appointments, where the 17-pound pocket bulldog is steadily regaining his strength – and eating better than he has in the past.

“He’s getting a lot of love all the time,” Roman remarked. “He’s fed on the hour every hour, so his body grows acclimated to it… He’s having a great time right now since we have volunteers making batches of boiled chicken and rice for him.”

Liam has been a beacon of joy since his rescue, despite the fact that he still has a long path ahead of him and numerous vet visits ahead of him.

“He loves everyone, and this dog doesn’t have a cruel bone in his body,” Roman remarked. “To me, it says it everything, since he’s still so appreciative and forgiving after everything he’s been through.”

Liam is one of several animals in Florida that have lately been abandoned or surrendered by their owners.

With so many shelters at capacity, Roman hopes that pet owners would seek aid and services from shelters and rescues before deciding they can no longer care for their animals. And Liam exemplifies how every dog is deserving of a second chance.

Despite all that has happened to him, Liam continues to extend his paw to strangers, demonstrating that he is ready for a life with a loving family.

“I believe that dogs like Liam can teach humans a thing or two,” Roman added. “It just restores your faith,” says the narrator.
