There are certain simple images that are worth a thousand words, and this one is certainly one of them. It was taken at the Orphaned Wildlife Center in Otisville, New York, roughly five years ago, and its worth hasn’t changed in that time.

Jim Kowalczik is one of the co-founders of the Orphaned Wildlife Center, together with his wife Susan Kowalczik. The two became licensed wildlife rehabilitators in 1996, but the facility didn’t start operating until 2015, when they rescued an injured black bear.

Since then, Jim and Susan have rescued many more orphaned bears. When Jim and Susan first started working with bears, it was something new for him. Susan had dealt with bears her entire life. He has no problem gaining the hearts of their animal pals, owing to his kindness and genuineness. They all admire him tremendously.

Every day, Jim looks after their rescued bears. He bathes them, feeds them, plays with them, and they even snuggle together for a little sleep when he’s tired. To be honest, they value and cherish one other as if they were a genuine family.

The photo above shows Jim with four Syrian bears (Maddy, Judy, Jenny, and Amy) resting peacefully on a mound of hay. It’s no secret that sleeping with bears is considered a bad idea because it may damage both people and bears, yet these guys seemed to be alright with it. It wasn’t the first time Jim had nodded asleep with his colossal pals, and it certainly wouldn’t be the last.
