Animals in white and black have been seen before, but what about pink? The pink manta ray is a new species to the world of manta rays.
Photographer Kristian Laine was fortunate enough to obtain a glimpse of the one-of-a-kind animal while in Australia.
The animal’s appearance was so strange that Laine mistook it for a camera glitch.
“I had no clue there were pink mantas in the world,” he explained, “so I was perplexed and assumed my strobes were damaged or acting strangely.”
The male manta ray, which may be seen in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, is around eleven feet long.
This creature’s hue is not due to disease or food, but rather to a genetic abnormality that produces melanin differently. It’s been dubbed Inspector Clouseau after The Pink Panther.
It induces red or pink pigmentation in manta rays, which has never been observed before.
Inspector Clouseau is now an online celebrity due to his unique color.
