An amateur photographer called Anil Prabhakar captured the amazing image. On a safari with his buddies, the photographer stumbled upon a forest warden looking for snakes and cleaning them from the river. This is primates’ worst adversary, especially orangutans.

An orangutan extended out his hand to the forest warden as Prabhakar was about to snap a photo, as if to assist him. The man, however, declined to accept the animal’s hand because he did not want to touch a wild animal he had never seen before.

“He was informed there was a snake in the river by someone. The warden went to the location and cut down the bushes. An orangutan approached the banks and observed what he was doing. He then moved in closer and extended his hand. The warden simply walked away. Later, when I inquired why, he answered, “It’s a wild animal, not one we’re accustomed with.” “However, they are to safeguard them,” Prabhakar recalled.

The forest warden is a volunteer of the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation, a non-profit organization. It was established in 1991 and presently houses 650 orangutans.

“Protecting orangutans in their natural environment also protects a wide range of other flora and animals.” The foundation’s website reads, “Protecting their forest environment is as vital to humans as it is to animals.”
