When wildlife photographer, Gordon Buchanan, and his BBC crew traveled to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, they all hoped for some unique encounters with the endangered silverback gorillas. Nonetheless, none of them would ever hope for such an incredible sighting.
The filmmakers accidentally caught a moment that shows how protective these majestic animals are when comes to their families!
When the team observed the once-in-a-lifetime moment, they were in Kahuzi-Biega National Park. They were on a forest road with their cameras turned on when a big silverback gorilla emerged from the woods. Everyone was ecstatic at such a sight, but they had no clue what the enormous ape was up to.
However, as soon as the massive guy reaches the center of the road, he stuns there, full of confidence, despite the fact that he is being seen by so many people. Even a fully loaded truck barreling towards him doesn’t appear to bother him in the least.
This is his domain. Then, with the family’s head of household ensuring that the road is secure, the entire family, from moms to children, casually crosses across, with the courageous male being the last to emerge from the bushes on the other side of the road.
“Mothers are very protective of their children; many have paid the ultimate price to shield their kids from poachers,” according to the Gorilla Highlands website.
“Because children learn so much from their mothers and other troop members, reintroducing young rescued gorillas into the wild is extremely challenging.”
