Nelson Cardoso was riding his motorbike home from work on a dry stretch of roadway in Brazil the other day when something grabbed his attention.
On the side of the road, there was a little armadillo.
“He was ready to cross the street, and there was continual traffic,” Cardoso explained to The Dodo. “I came to a halt on the bike to get him out of there.”
But Cardoso went above and above.
Cardoso was astonished to see the armadillo approach him after parking his motorcycle.
“They’re wild beasts,” stated Cardoso. “Normally, they’re wary. But he approached me unafraid.”
Cardoso got a jug of water off his bike and poured some out for the armadillo, suspecting it was thirsty on that hot afternoon. And, sure enough, he started drinking.

Cardoso went one step farther after quenching the small animal’s hunger. He carefully led him away from the dangerous highway and back into the safety of the brush.
The armadillo had received the assistance he required and had the right to be thankful — but Cardoso also felt grateful at the end of the meeting.
“It was a lot of fun,” Cardoso said. “It was great to be able to help him.”
