A Stray Dog Will Not Leave His Injured Friend’s Side Until They Are Both Rescued

When Betty Walter received a text message from a friend about a dog injured by a car, she told the friend who to contact in order to get the dog the assistance she needed. Walter had rescued and fostered dogs before, but she was at work at the time and knew she didn’t have a place for them anymore.

But as the day progressed, she couldn’t stop thinking about the dog, and after her shift was done, she drove out to check whether she’d been saved yet.

When Walter arrived, she saw that the dog had remained — along with another dog that was guarding her.

Betty White and Allen, the dogs, had discovered a grassy location away from the road where Betty could relax. Allen was well aware that she was hurt, which is why he refused to leave her side. He sat there guarding her, frightening anyone who came too close. He clearly cared for her and want for her to be OK.

“There were a couple of dogs in the distance as I pulled up, and he chased them away,” Walter told The Dodo. “He raced towards me when I got out of my car to look at her… I had to reassure him that I was there to assist him.”

Walter took the time to try and gain Allen’s trust so that he would let her help Betty. After a while, her friend who had texted her came by to help her get Betty into the car. The whole time, Allen stood to watch nearby, making sure that Betty was OK.

Once she was in the car, Walter and her friend were able to grab Allen too. It was clear that he wanted to go with her. If they were getting rescued, they had to be together.

Walter knew she had to take the place of the dog’s best friends as soon as she witnessed their lovely relationship and brought them home to foster them. She was concerned that if she didn’t, she wouldn’t be able to find someone else to take them, and they would be separated.

“It’s difficult to locate foster homes for large dogs here in Houston,” Walter added.

Betty required surgery to repair a shattered pelvis. She returned home to her new foster family to recuperate and be with Allen after the procedure. As the weeks passed, Walter saw how closely Betty and Allen are connected.

Betty still has some healing to do before she’ll be ready to find her forever home. She needs heartworm treatment and physical therapy, and Walter expects it’ll be a few months before she’s ready to be adopted. Allen is technically ready now — but of course, he’s not going anywhere without Betty.

After everything they’ve been through, Betty and Allen just want to find a loving home where they can be together, and Walter is determined to help them find that.

“They adore being the centre of attention,” Walter explained. “They require someone who will lavish them with kisses and embraces.” To protect them and make them feel safe. Allen enjoys toys, so he’ll need someone to toss the ball around with and play chase with. Betty wishes to sleep in a bed at your feet.”

Betty and Allen really are the sweetest best friends in the whole world, and before long, they’ll have the best home, where they can live their life together in peace.
