When long-lost siblings ran into each other on the street, what had begun as a routine stroll for two dogs turned into a surreal family reunion.
The two cockapoos quickly recognized one another. They immediately went in for a nuzzle and a huge embrace as soon as they recognized one other, despite the fact that they hadn’t seen each other since they were pups.
The dogs, named Monty and Rosie, were born to the same litter last June. “There were six of them,” Susan Killip, Rosie’s mom, told The Dodo. “But Monty and Rosie were always together.”
Rosie and Monty were cared after for a week at first by Killip’s pals who reside in a nearby hamlet; but, after that, the two puppies lost contact.
Up until their unexpected rendezvous last month, that is.
Killip remarked, “It was very sweet, they both just leaped up and held each other. “It was astonishing that they remembered each other after not seeing one other for ten months.”
The adorable story was shared on Twitter by Libby Pincher, who posted a conversation with her dad which has since gone viral.
Her dad described the adorable chance encounter, writing: “So, Dave was out walking his dog, and there was a couple walking towards him with a white version of his dog. Turns out they are brother and sister from the same litter. But instead of just playing like they do with other dogs, look at this.”

Although there is significant disagreement about whether dogs can recall their littermates, Twitter users and Killip are certain that the two puppies were acquainted.
It’s also conceivable that the affectionate responses dogs have for one another come from the other dog evoking comfort or familiarity in the first dog.
“Dogs of the same breed often gravitate toward each other,” Tufts University explains. “What we know is this: The scent of another dog stays with a dog for a long time … But whether the dog is processing that it’s a familial connection, we’ll probably never know for sure.”
Regardless of whether Monty and Rosie knew they were siblings, they now know that someone extremely important lives nearby. Once the coronavirus limitations are relaxed, their parents will make sure they get together.
Killip promised to stay in touch. “[It’s] a little challenging right now, but after this is all through, we’ll be out for dog walks together.”
