Fifi the bear would have a tragic story to share if she could communicate. That story, thankfully, has a nice conclusion!
Fifi, a bear cub, arrived at a Pennsylvania roadside zoo more than 30 years ago. She and other bears were compelled to do perplexing acts, such as standing on their hind legs, for years.
Fifi languished in a small, rusting cage that had nothing more than a crumbling doghouse for shelter when the rural zoo closed its doors more than 20 years ago.
Fifi was frail, her coat was drab and filthy, and she had untreated arthritis that was causing her discomfort. Every step was an uphill battle.
She was rescued in July by PETA and The Wild Animal Sanctuary. She was relocated to a facility in Colorado, where she was finally given the attention and space she needed.
Fifi’s body has finally caught up to her huge and gorgeous personality after only five months at the shelter.
She’s in good health, has a thick coat, and her legs are becoming stronger by the day. Fifi is hibernating in her new, cozy den for the first time in her long life this year.
