A kind New York State Police officer helped a bald eagle earlier this week. Authorities had to act quickly to save the wounded bird after it was discovered by itself on the side of a busy roadway.

After observing the magnificent bird on Route 17 in the Orange County village of Blooming Grove, a driver called the police. The unfortunate bird was saved by trooper Bryan Whalen, who was on the scene within minutes. According to NYSP’s Facebook post, “a driver phoned SP Middletown to report an injured bald eagle on the side of ST-17 in the Town of Blooming Grove.” “Trooper Whalen was able to corral the eagle and securely place it into a kennel that was provided by the Warwick Valley Animal Rescue by using his Division-issued jacket and a K9 Trooper’s bite sleeve.

The Eagle was then given to Officer Nicole Duchene from the Department of Environmental Conservation, who drove it to a rehab center in New Paltz for more care.
