Residents in Mayfield, Kentucky, are still grieving after the deadly tornado that struck the town last weekend, killing dozens of people and uprooting countless more.
While the entire scope of the calamity is still being determined, some stories have begun to emerge, demonstrating that there is still hope despite the tragedy.
This Monday, Dutch journalist Lucas Waagmeester was examining the damage in Mayfield when he came upon a lady on the rubble-strewn streets. The storm had lifted and shifted her house, but all she could think about was her dog, Nola, who had vanished when it hit.
And, despite the fact that her search appeared futile, it was not.
The woman and Nola were tearfully reunited in a heartwarming scene captured on film:
A magnificent piece has been reassembled among the ruins of so much brokenness.
With any luck, other storm victims whose beloved pets have gone missing will see similar joyous situations.
