The Owner Of A Barking Dog Discovers A Stranded Baby Dolphin

This is the moment when a quick-thinking canine saves the life of a poor sea creature in need of assistance. The brave dog, a springer spaniel named Leia, discovered the stranded young porpoise and began barking, guiding his owner to it. Eventually, the guy was able to save the defenseless creature.

Rich Wilcock, a photographer, was walking down the coastline at Criccieth, Wales, with his 2-year-old dog Leia when she started barking uncontrollably as if she was trying to get her father’s attention. Rich was shocked to find a beached marine species while walking his dog.

“I was photographing the beautiful scenery when Leia started to make a right old fuss,” the man told Daily Post. “She kept coming up to me, barking and nudging me, she must have smelt the dolphin from a mile off. At first, I thought it was a baby shark, it was only about one and a half feet but on a closer inspection I could see the blow hole on top of his head and realized it was a dolphin.”

Though Rich finally recognized the water creature as a dolphin, a Seawatch Foundation marine specialist believes it is more likely to be a newborn porpoise. Porpoises are marine animals that resemble dolphins in appearance but are more closely related to belugas and narwhals.

Anyway, the most important thing is that Rich saved the tiny one’s life by guiding it back to deeper water. He and Leia then lingered on the shore for at least another hour, just to make sure the young porpoise was okay.

“There was nobody around for miles,” Rick explained, “so I did what I could as gently as possible.” “I carefully raised him under his belly and slid him back into the waves, where he swam away into deeper water.”

The man also mentioned his dog got some extra treats when they returned back home, since she should be credited (entirely) for the rescue. “She is a very intelligent dog, more intelligent than most,” Rich also said.
