A voice screamed out from somewhere in the surrounding overgrowth on the fringes of a town in the Philippines the other day. The news was initially heard by Ken Dominic Arceo’s younger sister.
She responded with a yell.
Arceo told The Dodo, “She believed she was playing with another youngster.” “However, we located a trench near the source of the yell.”
nside the pit, about 3 feet down, was a baby goat. He was trapped.
“We were shocked,” Arceo said. “Only our house is near there. We didn’t even know we had any goats roaming around.”
Arceo and his family had found the goat just in time to rescue him. But they did more than just that.
Arceo visited all of his neighbors after taking the young goat home and feeding him bottles of milk to see if they knew where he came from.
Arceo stated, “No one claimed him.” “As a result, we decided to detain him overnight and search again the next day.”
That night, Arceo made sure the baby goat was fed and cozy.
“I’ve learned that they are very sensitive to cold,” he said. “We cuddled for body heat.”
The next day, Arceo and his family began their search for the newborn goat’s owner. Their search led them to an even more distant location some 30 minutes away, where there are few people. That’s when something incredible occurred.
“We came across a goat herd before coming across another family or another human,” Arceo said. “They appear to be roaming around freely.”
The goat herd seemed to recognize the baby Arceo was holding in the distance. He didn’t get too close, as to not spook them away.
Instead, he placed the baby on the ground and nudged him toward them.
“All of their tails were wagging like crazy. The mom ran towards the baby goat and he began to nurse,” Arceo said. “Our hearts were full. It downright gave me personally pure, unfiltered happiness.”
The goat herd, with baby in tow, then wandered peacefully out of sight.
Arceo and his family had made them whole again.
Arceo will never forget this encounter.
He said, “It simply feels incredibly rewarding to save someone that needs saving.” “A key lesson for me is that if we are given the opportunity to unconditionally aid anyone or any animal, we will take it.”
