A family was surprised to see a visitor at their front door when they awoke last month. The 8-foot alligator was relaxing in the shade on their welcome mat.
The Tampa family tried all they could to persuade the alligator to leave their property, but he appeared far too content to give up his perch.
Unsure of what to do, the residents put up a sign for the mailman reading: “Delivery stop! Leave packages here! ALLIGATOR at front door!! (Seriously).” They also called the expert trappers for help with their unusual visitor.
The alligator had clearly gone a considerable distance in search of a secure place to rest.
“”The alligator most likely came from a neighboring lake,” Karina Sura Paner, a manager at Croc Encounters, told The Dodo.
“However, the lake is not directly in front of or behind the home.” “It took the alligator a long time to get to their front door. During the night, he was most likely seeking a new body of water. It’s conceivable he sought a dark area to hide at sunrise.”
When the rescuers arrived at the scene, they could see that the alligator was missing two limbs, most likely a result of a fight with another alligator.
However, that didn’t stop him from making a big mess when the rescuers tried to remove him from the property.
“Until we approached him, the alligator was pretty happy,” Paner added, “at which moment he opened his lips to give us a warning hiss.” “When we tied him up with a rope, he acted like an alligator, swinging his tail back and forth and even death rolling a few times.”
While the alligator could not be put back into the wild, he has found a home where he will live in an outdoor, natural habitat with a bunch of other alligators, where he will not be slowed down by his lost limbs.
Now, the alligator is safe and has finally found a shady spot where he can rest as much as he wants without a mailman in sight.
