For over a decade, Carla Moore-Williams has kept birdbaths in her yard. She lives in an area where there are a lot of birds, and she wanted to make a secure spot for them to come and hang out, giving her the opportunity to photograph them.
A small bluebird came by one day and decided to unwind by taking a bath. Moore-Williams, of course, took out her camera, eager to capture the guest in some nice, elegant shots.
“This particular bird is just one of a large population of eastern bluebirds we have, and I photograph them all every time the opportunity arises,” Moore-Williams told The Dodo. “I love to photograph the bluebirds because they make me laugh, especially when they are soaking wet.”
As the bluebird splashed around, Moore-Williams snapped some photos — but they didn’t turn out quite the way she imagined.
Because the bluebird was splashing around so much and causing the water to fly all over the place, the photographs were less beautiful and more funny and chaotic. Of course, the bluebird had a great time and had no idea he was interfering with his host’s photo session. He couldn’t suppress his delight.
Moore-Williams released the photographs from her photoshoot, despite her reservations about them, and everyone fell in love with them.
Moore-Williams stated, “I thought the images were bad, but they made people laugh, and that was fantastic.”
Moore-Williams enjoys photographing all of the birds that visit her property, and the birds, in turn, like dropping by for a snack, a bath, or simply to relax. They’re not always the easiest subjects to photograph, but that makes for some fascinating and frequently amusing images.
