A food delivery worker never imagined she’d fall in love with another dog so quickly after saying goodbye to her 14-year-old one in December 2021.
Weeks later, a timid little shih-poo crossed her path, dramatically altering both of their lives.
“I see this scraggly dog darting across the road from behind the truck and in front of me,” the woman, who prefers to remain anonymous, told The Dodo.
She quickly parked nearby to find the scared pup.
“He was so little — and given my freshly wounded heart from the loss of my own fur baby, — I did not want to risk leaving him to be hit by someone,” she said.
The moment she reconnected with the small dog, they clicked.
She recalled, “When we caught eyes, I said, “Come here, buddy,” and he almost sprang into my arms. In that instant, it was almost as if he had been looking for me his entire life and had just found me.
The dog wasn’t microchipped, and the lady attempted in vain to track down his owner. Despite having matted hair, the 3-year-old dog, whose she called Stitch, appeared to be in generally excellent health after a comprehensive medical examination.
She claimed, “I chopped his hair after spending a week with Stitch and finding no leads to his owner. I became aware of how much he resembled Lela at that point. The grooming had to stop.
Despite the resemblance, it took some work for Stitch to feel safe.
“He was a little skittish and not sure how to play with toys,” she said. “Now, he absolutely loves to bring us his toys and play with us. He ended up turning into the most loveable dog in the world and brings so much joy to our lives.”
Even though she still loves Lela, the woman is appreciative of their time spent together and the second opportunity she’s getting with Stitch.
She remarked, “I sit back and wonder if Lela somehow, somewhere in this cosmos, made us cross paths at at the right time. “The similarities between the two are startling. He was in dire need of affection and care, and I was in need of help to rebuild a heart that had been terribly shattered.
