Ann Dixon started experiencing the oddest issue around six weeks ago. On her front lawn, someone kept putting bread in the birdbath.

Dixon told The Dodo, “I believed a bystander was throwing it in there.” “I know that giving the birds bread is not the best food for them, and it also makes the water quite filthy, so I was irritated that they were doing it. If I caught it in time, I used to scoop it out and change the water.

The bread started appearing in the birdbath on a regular basis. While Dixon admired the dedication of whoever was trying to feed the birds, she also wasn’t loving having to clean out bread from the birdbath every day. In an attempt to tackle the situation, she drafted up a sign politely asking her neighbors to stop, taped it to the birdbath and crossed her fingers.

Naturally, the sign wasn’t functional. Continual deliveries of bread and even some french fries were made. Dixon became increasingly irritated until she at last identified the offender.

Dixon reported seeing a crow on the edge of her garden carrying a complete bread bun. I remained still as he gave me the evil eye. After landing on the edge of the birdbath, he dropped the bread roll into the water and continued to strut over the grass.

The realization that he was responsible struck. I was so stunned that my face could have been painted. I hurried inside to inform my husband since I had been whining to him about this strange bread for weeks.

All that time, Dixon had thought it was one of her neighbors dropping the bread in her birdbath. Instead, it was just a crow trying to soften up his food. No wonder her sign was ignored. The culprit couldn’t read it.

Dixon took the letter out of the birdbath after the riddle was clarified. She still sees the birds come by and leave their food behind, but she is less bothered by it now. Where they’re getting all that bread from is the next puzzle she has to solve, but she’ll get to that one another day.
