Humpback whales are the world’s biggest creatures. Given their tremendous weight (up to 40 tons), these giant creatures are unlikely to completely leap out of the water. Perhaps that’s why this magnificent video of a humpback whale breaching the sea off the coast of South Africa has gone viral.

The scuba diver Craig Capehart captured on camera the breathtaking video off the coast of Mbotyi, South Africa. As he estimates, the adult whale weighs nearly 40 tons.

Later he shared the incredible video on Youtube, gaining millions of views so far. Capehart said that he and three other divers were on board an inflatable motorboat looking for sardines so they could track the predators that they attract when the humpback whale breached nearby.

“It appears that no recording of an adult humpback whale leaping completely out of the water has ever been recorded!”

Craig noted in the video’s caption, “A very unusual occasion indeed.” “While dolphins and even Great White Sharks have been spotted soaring out of the water, an adult humpback whale is a first!” What a spectacle for these lucky divers to see. Check out the unusual footage embedded below!
