You have to admit that being woken awake isn’t the most pleasant experience. Especially when there’s no compelling reason to do so. However, being awoken early in the morning by an unusual noise turned out to be a nice surprise for this man.
Tim Newton, an Alaska-based photographer, noticed noises coming from his porch and proceeded to investigate. What’s more, guess what… Seven adorable lynx cubs and their mother paid him a visit.
Tim, on the other hand, ran to get his camera and photograph the rare sight. As they lined up just outside in front of where he was standing behind the screen door, the gorgeous animals were far from shining. They never seemed self-conscious in front of the camera. They were simply playing as if the porch were their own playground.
“I crept over to the window and opened the curtains a crack, and could see it looked like a cat. I started to think nothing more of it. But then I noticed it had really big feet and little tiny hairs on its ears. So I knew then it was probably a lynx kitten – not a full-grown cat,” Tim shared the lovely experience with Channel 2.
“And lo and behold, one by one, all these baby lynx came to mama and shuffled out onto the deck, right in front of me, where I was standing behind the screen.”
“They were running back and forth, pouncing on each other,”he said. “I started snapping away. I thought “Wow! What incredible luck. This is just wonderful! They were so cute. It was cute-tastic!”
Lynx is a rare and secretive wild cat species. Tim has only seen a few in the wild on a few of occasions. It was a great experience to have such a rare opportunity to picture them up-close from the comfort of his own home. For any animal enthusiast, especially a wildlife photographer, this is a dream come true.
“I’ve never seen so many lynx,” Tim explained. “To see all these lynx on my deck, I was gobsmacked. They started to play again. For the next 40 minutes, they all played on my deck. They were chasing each other, rolling and wrestling.”
“We’re always excited to see animals.” It makes me feel grateful – grateful for my home. I’m grateful for the opportunity to view these lynx up close.”
What an amazing sight to witness!
