A snapshot that was circulating on Facebook a few years ago caught my eye. It was of a 15-year-old kid who had rescued a fox from a bunch of men who were abusing it.
Luke Rowles, who had relocated to Bulgaria with his family in 2007, was the young man drenched in blood and clutching a fox whose muzzle had been taped shut.
The family founded the RSDR Rudozem Street Dog Rescue after being shocked by the abuse of local street dogs and inspired by their son’s friendship with a street dog named Ranger.
Hundreds of dogs and cats have been saved from the streets since then, with many of them being adopted in countries such as the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
Little Rosie was a recent rescue. Rosie was discovered hiding in the gutter alongside the road. People walked right over her, seemingly oblivious to the fact that she was crouching beneath them.
Rosie was returned to the shelter, but her rescuers had no idea she was pregnant. Bella and Baxter, her two pups, have since grown up and been adopted in the United Kingdom, proving that she was an excellent mother.
Tony, Luke’s father, received a parcel containing three little kittens a few days earlier. This was a unique situation in that the kittens were given to him rather than found abandoned elsewhere.
The kittens were placed with Rosie because of her calm demeanor, and she allowed them to comfort-suckle. She was no longer producing milk at the moment.
However, the babies quickly began to suckle for real when Rosie began lactating again, making her the ideal foster mother for these small kittens.
Adoption requests have been made several times, but the family is unable to let Rosie leave. I believe, as I’m sure they do, that Rosie has discovered her life’s calling. Who knows what the future holds for her, but she is looking forward to it.
